Heisman Top 5 – TAW Final Predictions 2012

With the Heisman race coming to a close, we here at Tailgating All Week have decided to do a mock Heisman vote.  The rules are simple.  Rank your top 5 Heisman choices.  A first place vote receives 5 points, a fifth place vote receives 1 point.  There were 5 people voting in total.  First place votes are shown in ( ) .

Heisman Top 5 – Week 14 2012

With the regular season wrapping up for most teams this week, it might have been the last time for some Heisman contenders to impress voters.  A big topic of discussion will be the fact that Johnny Manziel is a freshman.  There is a section of the voters who will not give a first place vote to a freshman.  Has Manziel impressed enough to be the first college rookie to win the stiff-arm trophy?  We will see.  There will be only one more edition of the Heisman Top 5 in which we do a mock Heisman vote.  More to come next week….

Heisman Top 5 – Week 13, 2012

This week was the week we’ve all been waiting for!  The BCS got all muddied up, like always, and the SEC got right back in the thick of the national title hunt, like always, with three out of the top four teams in the BCS standings.  Collin Klein had a decent game, but not spectacular, and his defense let him down.  Stanford made Kenjon Barner look downright normal. Along with shaking up the BCS, this weeks defeats of the top two teams will change many Heisman ballots across the country.  The number one question on my mind is does a one-loss Collin Klein beat Johnny Manziel?  Let’s get to the list:

Heisman top 5 – Week 12 2012

The biggest game this past Saturday for Heisman voters was the upset of Alabama by Texas A&M.  Johnny Football effectively knocked Alabama out of title contention, barring two losses from the undefeateds, by running and passing.  AJ McCarron was also all but eliminated from the Heisman race even though he threw for over 300 yards.  He ended up throwing 2 picks and his stats just aren’t good enough if he and his team aren’t perfect in the win column.

Heisman Top 5 – Week 11 2012

There isn’t a whole lot of change in our list this week.  In fact, only one switch as Manti Te’o and Kenjon Barner switch spots.  As we near the end of the college football season, our Heisman hopefuls have only a handful of opportunities left to impress voters.

 

1. Collin Klein  QB-Kansas State

Klein’s Wildcats remained un-beaten this week, taking care of Oklahoma State.  Klein left the game in the third quarter with an injury but still managed to have a productive day.  His stats are still great and as long as this isn’t a lingering injury and he can continue playing, he has a great shot at winning the coveted trophy.

Heisman Top 5 – Week 10 2012

Well, it is starting to look like it is Collin Klein’s to lose. I really don’t think Kansas State will remain undefeated, but if they do, it is almost a guarantee that the Heisman will be awarded to Klein. Manti Teó helped himself out this week as well with a huge game and win against Oklahoma.  Here is how I see the race after week 10.

 

1.  Collin Klein   QB- Kansas State

Klein and K-State routed Texas Tech this week.  He finished the game with 4 total touchdowns which brings his season total to 28.  His 70% completion percentage and over 600 yards rushing along with his leadership and scoring make him everyone’s front runner at this point.

Heisman Top 5 – Week 9 2012

Well, it was said that we would learn alot from the K-State/W. Virginia game, and boy did we.  Collin Klein was spectacular and surged to the top spot in many Heisman voter’s minds.  Geno Smith left much to be desired and is still hanging on by a thread on our top 5 list. So here are the top 5 players in the Heisman race after week 9.

Heisman top 5 – Week 8 2012

1.  Braxton Miller – QB  Ohio State            +

Miller’s performance against Indiana was spectacular.  He threw 2 touchdowns over 40 yards in length.  He also ran for almost 150 yards, 67 of those on a touchdown run.  He now has over 900 yards rushing (as a quarterback) through 7 games.  He is the superstar of an undefeated team and he deserves the praise he is receiving.

Heisman Top 5 – Week 7 2012

A weekly post will be coming your way bringing you my top 5 Heisman hopefuls .  Feel free to tell me where I’ve messed up or what I have right.

 

1.  Geno Smith QB, West Virginia

The senior has only played 5 games thus far but he has been close to perfect.  24 touchdowns,  0 interceptions, and just under 2000 yards goes pretty well with his 81 % completion percentage.  As long as he continues to perform and his team stays unbeaten, it is hard to imagine anyone else winning this thing.
